The short version

SoloCook keeps everything about you on your phone. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and nothing is sold or shared. The one thing that can leave your phone is a photo you choose to send through Fridge Scan — an optional feature that reads a picture of your fridge and suggests ingredients. That photo is processed and discarded, not stored. Details below.

What the app stores, and where

Everything the app tracks — your display name, cooking streak, saved recipes, pantry selections, money-saved counter — lives only on your device. It is written to your phone's local preferences store and never leaves the device unless you explicitly share something via the system share sheet (e.g. a streak card to Instagram).

The first time you use Fridge Scan the app also creates a random scan identifier and keeps it on the device. It is not derived from your phone, an account, or anything else about you; its only job is described under Fridge Scan.

Uninstalling the app removes all of this data. We cannot recover it, because we never had a copy.

Network requests the app does make

The app makes anonymous HTTPS requests so that you can see recipe photos and a deeper recipe catalogue:

• SoloCook's image service — a small server we run on Cloudflare that looks up a photo for a recipe on Wikipedia or Pixabay and remembers the link. It receives the recipe's name and cuisine, nothing about you.
• Unsplash — serves the cuisine cover photos. Requests are anonymous; Unsplash receives the image URL and the standard network metadata your phone includes in any web request.
• TheMealDB — serves a small number of additional recipes. Requests are anonymous; TheMealDB receives the cuisine name being queried.

None of these receive any personal information about you — not your name, not a user ID, not an email, not location. They see only the anonymous HTTPS request, the same as any web browser would send when loading an image.

Fridge Scan (optional)

Fridge Scan lets you photograph your open fridge or a shelf so the app can suggest which ingredients to tick. It is the one feature that sends something you created off your phone, so here is exactly what happens:

• What is sent: the photo you take or choose, reduced in size, plus the random scan identifier above. Nothing else — not your name, your pantry, or your location.
• Where it goes: to SoloCook's own server (a Cloudflare Worker), which passes it to an AI vision model hosted on Cloudflare Workers AI to recognise the food in the picture.
• How long it is kept: the photo is processed in memory and discarded when the request finishes. We do not store it, we cannot see it, and it is not used to train any model. The scan identifier is kept only as a daily counter, so each phone gets a fair share of the free scans, and expires within about 26 hours.
• When it runs: only after you have read and accepted the notice in the app, and only when you tap the camera. Everything else in SoloCook works without ever scanning.

Cloudflare processes these photos on our behalf as a service provider. Its privacy policy covers that processing: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Voice entry

Adding ingredients by voice uses your phone's own on-device speech recognition. Audio never leaves your phone. If your phone cannot recognise speech on-device, the feature switches itself off rather than sending audio anywhere.

What we do not do

• No analytics (we do not use Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar).
• No crash reporting that transmits to our servers.
• No third-party advertising.
• No sale or sharing of data.
• No accounts, no login, no password, no email collection.
• No location tracking.
• No access to your contacts or calendar. The microphone is used only for on-device voice entry; the camera and your photos only for Fridge Scan, only when you ask.

Children

SoloCook is rated 4+ and is safe for all ages. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. The only thing a person can send us is a Fridge Scan photo, and we do not keep it.

Changes to this policy

• 11 September 2026 — added Fridge Scan (the optional photo upload described above) and the voice entry section. Fridge Scan stays off until you accept the in-app notice.
• 20 April 2026 — first version.

If a future version of SoloCook adds another feature that transmits data, this policy will be updated first, and the feature will be optional and explained inside the app before it does anything.
